Substantiv: Alla Former — Full Noun Declension Revision
Swedish nouns have four forms: indefinite singular, definite singular, indefinite plural, and definite plural. These forms are built differently depending on which of the five noun groups (deklinationer) the noun belongs to. This lesson revises all five groups and the most important irregular nouns.
Read this passage. Every noun is in a different form. Notice how the endings change as the form changes.
En flicka gick in i affären. Hon köpte tre äpplen och en tidning. Tidningen handlade om händelser i världen. Hon la allt i väskan och gick hem.
Hemma öppnade hon fönstret och satte sig vid bordet. På bordet låg flera böcker. Hon plockade upp en bok och läste om städer i Europa. Hennes favorit bland alla städerna var Rom.
Hon drömde om att resa dit med vänner. Vännerna hon tänkte på bodde i olika länder. Det var svårt att samla alla människorna på samma ställe.
What to notice: Each highlighted noun shows a different form in use. Notice how definite forms add -en/-et/-na/-a/-erna depending on the group. Plurals vary by group: group 1 adds -or, group 2 adds -ar, group 3 adds -er, groups 4–5 are zero-plural. Irregular nouns (människa→människor, man→män, barn→barn) must be memorised.
